Moon Phase Project

These are pictures of the Moon during each day of its transition through the 29.5 day Lunar Cycle. I was able to capture every day except Day 1 and Day 29. These are difficult to photograph since they are very close to the horizon just before sunrise and just after sunset. Also the moon is just a tiny crescent ~1% Illuminated.  It took me about 1 year to get every day photographed.

The pictures were taken through a Meade ETX-125 Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope. The telescope has 127mm Aperture, an f/15 Focal Ratio and a 1900mm Focal Length. A Canon EOS T3 was used to capture the images. It was mounted on the telescope with and eyepiece adapter instead of a lens, so the telescope became the lens for the camera. Most of the pictures were taken with an exposure time of 1/60 sec for the small crescents to 1/500 sec for the full moon.  Each image is composed of two separate pictures that were "stitched" together using Microsoft ICE.
