NGC 6712 - Globular Cluster - Class IX

NGC 6712 is a Class IX Globular Cluster.  It was discovered by French Astronomer Jean-Babtiste Le Gentil in 1746. John Herschel was the first to describe it as a globular cluster.  NGC 6712 is located in the constellation Scutum at 18h 53m 04.3s RA, -08o 42m 21.5s DEC.  It is 26,400 Light Years from Earth, and has a visual magnitude of 8.7. The best time to observe NGC 6712 is in the Late Summer.
