NGC 4565 - The Needle Galaxy

NGC 4565, the Needle Galaxy or Caldwell 38 is an edge on spiral galaxy.  It was discovered by British Astronomer William Herschel in 1785.  NGC 4565 is located in the constellation Coma Berenices at 12h 36m 20.8s RA, +25o 59m 16s DEC.  It is 42.7 Million Light Years from Earth, and has a visual magnitude of 10.4. The best time to observe NGC 4565 is in the Spring.
