NGC 281 - The Pacman Nebula

NGC 281, the Pacman Nebula is a bright emission nebula.   It's name comes from the resemblance to the video game character.   It was discovered by American Astronomer Edward Emerson Barnard in 1883.  NGC 281 is located in the constellation Cassiopeia at 00h 52m 59.3 RA, +56o 37m 19 DEC.  It is 9,500 Light Years away and is 96 light years in diameter. The best time to observe The Pacman Nebula is in the Late Winter.
