M70 - Globular Cluster - Class V

M70 is a Class V Globular Cluster also known as NGC 6681.  It is a close neighbour with M69 located near the the galactic center.  They are seperated by 1,800 light years. The Hale-Bopp comet was discovered near this cluster in 1995.  M70 was discovered by French Astronomer Charles Messier in 1780.  It is 68 light-years in diameter and contains about 75,000 stars.   It is located in the constellation Sagittarius at 18h 43m 12.8s RA, -32o 17m 31.6s DEC.  It is 29,400 Light Years from Earth, and has a visual magnitude of 7.9. The best time to observe M70 is in the Late Summer.
