M64 - The Black Eye Galaxy

M64 or NGC 4826 is know as the Black Eye Galaxy or the Sleeping Beauty Galaxy has a dark band of dust partially in from of its bright center. It was discovered by English Astronomer Edward Pigott in 1779.   M64 is located in the constellation Coma Berenices at 12h 56m 43.7s RA, +21o 40m 57.6s DEC.  It is 17.3 Million Light Years from Earth, and has a visual magnitude of 8.5. The best time to observe M64 is in the late Spring.
