M45 - The Pleaides

M45, the Pleaides or the Seven Sisters is an open star cluster.  It is one of the nearest star clusters to Earth. It is easily recognizable in the night sky.  It was observed with a telescope by Italian Astronomer Galileo Galilei in 1610.  Early records from 1600 BC mention the open cluster.  It was also mentioned by Homer, the Bible and many other sources through history.  M45 is located in the constellation Taurus at 03h 47m 24 RA, +24o 07m 00 DEC.  It is 400 Light Years away and has a visual magnitude of 1.2. The best time to observe M45 is in the Winter.
