M43 - De Mairan's Nebula

M43 is part of the Orion Nebula resembles hook and is seperated from M42 by a dust lane.  It was discovered by French Astronomer Jean-Jacques d'Ortous de Mairan in 1731.  M43 is located in the constellation Orion at 05h 35m 31.8s RA, -05o 17m 57s DEC.  It is 1,300 Light Years away and has a visual magnitudes of 9.0. The best time to observe M43 is in the Winter.
