M28 - Globular Cluster - Class IV

M28 is a Class IV Globular Cluster.  It is the first of it's kind know to contain a millisecond pulsar: PSR B1821-24.  It contains a dense neutron star that is rapidly rotating, once every three milliseconds.  It was discovered by French Astronomer Charles Messier in 1764.  It about 60 light-years in diameter.   M28 is located in the constellation Sagittarius at 18h 24m 32.9s RA, -24o 52m 11.4s DEC.  It is 17,900 Light Years from Earth, and has a visual magnitude of 6.8. The best time to observe M28 is late Summer.
