M22 - The Sagittarius Cluster - Class VII

M22 is a Class VII ellipical Globular Cluster called the Sagittarius Cluster.  It is one of the brightest globular clusters and is also one of the nearer to Earth.   It was discovered by German Astronomer Abraham Ihle in 1665.  It about 100 light-years in diameter.   M22 is located in the constellation Sagittarius at 18h 36m 23.9s RA, -23o 54m 17.1s DEC.  It is 10,600 Light Years from Earth, and has a visual magnitude of 5.1. The best time to observe M22 is late Summer.
