M19 - Globular Cluster - Class VIII

M19 - Is a Class VIII Globular Cluster.  It is know as one of the most oblate Globular Clusters that has a distinctly elongated shape.  This may be due to dust and gas along it's edge.   It was discovered by French Astronomer Charles Messier in 1764.  It about 140 light-years in diameter.   M19 is located in the constellation Ophiuchus at 17h 02m 37.7s RA, -26o 16m 04.6s DEC. It is 28,700 Light Years from Earth, and has a visual magnitude of 6.8. The best time to observe M19 is mid Summer.
