M17 - The Omega Nebula

M17 - Is an Emmision Nebula and also called the Swan Nebula. It contains one of the youngest star clusters in our galaxy at only 1 million years old.  The Omega Nebula was discovered by Swiss Astronomer Jean-Philippe de Cheseaux in 1745.  It about 22 light-years in diameter.   M17 is located in the constellation Sagittarius at 18h 20m 26s RA, -16o 10m 36s DEC. It is 5,500 Light Years from Earth, and has a visual magnitude of 6.0. The best time to observe M17 is late Summer.
