M16 - The Eagle Nebula

M16 - Is an Emmision and Dark Nebula. The area is active with star formation and is famous for the "Pillars of Creation" image that was taken by the Hubble Space Telescope.  The Eagle Nebula was discovered by Swiss Astronomer Jean-Philippe de Cheseaux in 1746.  It is 70x55 light-years.   M16 is located in the constellation Serpens at 18h 18m 48s RA, -13o 49m 00s DEC. It is 7,000 Light Years from Earth, and has a visual magnitude of 6.4. The best time to observe M16 is late Summer.
