M12 - Globular Cluster - Class XI

M12 - Is a Class VII Globular Cluster that was discovered by French Astronomer Charles Messier in 1764.  It is only 3 degrees from M10, one of the brightest globular clusters in this portion of the sky.  It is 74 light-years in diameter and contains over 16,000 stars.   M12 is located in the constellation Ophiuchus at 16h 47m 15s RA, -01o 56m 50s DEC and is 16' arc minutes. It is 16,440 Light Years from Earth, and has a visual magnitude of 6.7. The best time to observe M12 is mid Summer.
