M11 - The Wild Duck Cluster - Open Cluster

M11 - The Wild Duck Cluster is an Open Cluster that discovered by German Astronomer Gottfried Kirch in 1681.  It is a young cluster with an estimated age of 316 million years.  It's name comes from the brighter stars forming a triangle which could resemble a flying flock of ducks.   It is 190 light-years in diameter and contains over 2900 stars.   M11 is located in the constellation Scutum at 18h 51m 05.0s RA, -06o 16m 12s DEC and is 1.3 arc degrees. It is 6,120 Light Years from Earth, and has a visual magnitude of 5.8.
