M7 - The Ptolemy Cluster - Open Cluster

M7 - The Ptolemy Cluster is an Open Cluster that discovered by Italian Astronomer Giovanni Battista Hodiema in 1645.  It gets is name because it was first recorded by Ptolemy in 130 AD.  He thought is was a nebula.  It is 50 light-years in diameter and contains about 80 stars.   M7 is located in the constellation Scorpius at 17h 53m 51.2s RA, -34o 47m 34s DEC and is 1.3 arc degrees. It is 980 Light Years from Earth, and has a visual magnitude of 3.3.

1 Session on August 1.  Used Darks and Flats.  This was very low on the horizon and some tree branches were in the way.  The yellow/green area on the left is from the tree branches.
